The Stepping Up Award, created in 2025 by the STEPs on Arthur Foundation, recognizes individuals or groups who have made exceptional contributions to STEPs on Arthur. These contributions demonstrate a significant and positive impact on the work of the organization and the lives of those who participate in its programming. Recipients will have shown long-term commitment to the value that STEPs participants bring to the broader community.
STEPs on Arthur proudly presents this year’s inaugural award to Maura Hunter.
Maura has long served as an extraordinary ambassador for STEPs, particularly through her direct leadership and unwavering commitment. In 2019, she co-chaired the Capital Campaign with her husband, Jol, helping to select the campaign committee, prepare agendas, cultivate major donors, and establish donor recognition levels. Her focus, creativity, and resilience were instrumental in securing more than 90% of campaign donations, and she consistently sought positive, solution-oriented approaches when challenges arose.
Maura has always placed a strong emphasis on donor relations, advocating for regular communication and thoughtful stewardship. This dedication led to her becoming a founding member of the Donor Care Committee in 2022. Her participation has been steadfast, often joining meetings from across the continent, and she regularly supports the Foundation through professional communications and creative insight that continues to guide its work.
In addition, Maura has played a key role this year in establishing the Living Legacy Committee, supporting the development of sustainable funding for STEPs. Beyond her committee involvement, she remains an invaluable resource to staff, generously sharing donor relationships, recruiting board members, and offering practical support in countless ways.
Her volunteer commitment also extends to Cobequid Special Olympics, where she has long championed individuals with intellectual disabilities. The impact of her time, energy, generosity, and leadership is immeasurable, benefiting STEPs, the Foundation, and the broader community for years to come.
Maura truly exemplifies all the qualities of the Stepping Up Award.
The annual Eleanor Norrie Award is presented to recognize extraordinary contributions for the betterment of STEPs on Arthur.
This year, we are pleased to honour Board Member Jim Gould with the Award. Besides being an extremely active Board member with respect to our daily business, he has gone above and beyond this past year with two of our extremely successful and ambitious events, the annual Golf Tournament and our first offering of Bollywood Night. Jim's leadership contributed greatly to these hugely triumphant events, and we as a Board are honored to serve with him.
Jim is pictured here receiving this much-deserved accolade!

The STEPs on Arthur Foundation Board recently accepted the resignation of our Chair, Deatra Nicholson. We would like to thank her for her service to STEPs and her commitment to our clients. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors.
On July 31, 2025, the community gathered to celebrate the grand opening of the Coady Rec & Fitness Centre, a facility dedicated to Lloyd’s lifelong passion for fitness, service, and bringing people together.
A large crowd filled the space with energy and excitement, but the highlight of the day was seeing Lloyd himself, at 100 years young, dancing with guests and sharing in the joy of the moment. His presence reminded everyone of the importance of staying active and connected, no matter your age.
The event also featured a generous donation from the Kathleen and Lloyd Coady Foundation, ensuring that programs and activities at the centre will continue to grow and serve the community for years to come.
This new centre stands as a lasting tribute to Lloyd’s legacy, a place where people of all ages and abilities can come together, stay active, and build community.
Thank you to everyone who supported the fundraisers that contributed to this very big day!

We are honoured she has agreed to step up into the role of Chair. Welcome, Deatra!
This month, we accepted the resignation of Dave Ritcey from the Board of Directors of the STEPs on Arthur Foundation. While his departure leaves a notable void, we are grateful that Dave remains committed to supporting the Foundation in other ways, including his pivotal role in the upcoming Golf Tournament, a cornerstone of our success. We deeply appreciate Dave’s unwavering dedication and invaluable service to the Foundation. His contributions will be greatly missed. Thank you, Dave!
The Board of Directors of the STEPs on Arthur Foundation wishes to gratefully acknowledge our outgoing Board Chair, Adam Harris.
We are indebted to Adam for his exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to our mission. His vision and dedication have made a lasting impact, and we are deeply appreciative of his service.
We extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who made the STEPs Up to the Plate campaign such a success! Whether you visited our restaurant partners, shared our posts, told a friend or all of the above, your support truly made this initiative unforgettable.
STEPs' clients and Foundation staff had the privilege of visiting our partners to present them with certificates in recognition of their participation.
