Our Beginning
For over 35 years, STEPs on Arthur (formerly Colchester Community Workshops) has operated as a not-for-profit organization and social enterprise providing excellent professional development, educational, social and training programs for clients with intellectual disabilities. Rotary House opened in 2005 and has served as their headquarters. It was designed to accommodate 60 clients and operate seven programs. Since that time, we have grown. We currently support 80 clients, 10 in-house programs, 12 instructors, 19 utility works and four managerial roles.
“STEPs on Arthur provides the atmosphere, support and encouragement required for participants to realize their dreams.”
— Wayne Talbot, community supporter
Our Programs
STEPs on Arthur’s valued work in the community includes ribbon making (over 280 orders per year), button making (87,500 per year), mail out contracts, community employment, New-To-You store and rag sales. It’s an environmentally-friendly example for all citizens having recycled and diverted close to 230 tons of materials from the bale fill in 2018. The organization is funded by our operations and fundraisers (62%), and also by the provincial government (38%).
Our Purpose
STEPs believes that every person has the right to full engagement in their community and supports people in their own personal plan of participation.
